ECOMB, the Environmental Coalition of Miami & The Beaches,
and the Miami Beach Cinematheque presents
“Dolphins In Distress” and “Acid Test”
What: |
Dolphins in Distress On March 2nd, 2005 over 80 rough-toothed dolphins (Steno bradanensis) stranded themselves on the sand flats off of Marathon, Florida with little hope of survival. Some were able to maneuver back into deep water, but many more were sick, trapped, dehydrated, and beaten by the surf. The Marine Mammal Conservancy (MMC), along with help from other local agencies, responded to the animals in distress with darkness approaching. Dolphins in Distress is a documentary that chronicles the rescue, rehabilitation and eventual release of the survivors of this mass-stranding event. Bob Care made this film exclusively for the Marine Mammal Conservancy. MMC is committed to protecting Marine Mammals & Their Habitats Through Research, Rescue, Rehabilitation, Release and Education. Acid Test Acid Test, a film produced by NRDC, was made to raise awareness about the largely unknown problem of ocean acidification, which poses a fundamental challenge to life in the seas and the health of the entire planet. Like global warming, ocean acidification stems from the increase of carbon dioxide in the earth’s atmosphere since the start of the Industrial Revolution. |
